Hand-Painted Elephant in the Mughal Miniature Tradition
A wooden elephant carried over into the miniature painting tradition of Jaipur, where artists work with brushes fine enough to paint a flower the size of a grain of rice. The surface carries royal Mughal motifs, floral patterns and fine brushwork, painted over embossed detailing in the wood.
Because every piece is painted by hand, no two elephants come out exactly alike. Small differences in the pattern and colour are part of how this work is made.
