Sawan wood, also called Shriparni, holds a particular place in Hindu worship. It is the wood used in havan and Vaastu rituals, and idols carved from it are traditionally considered the right choice for daily puja rather than only for decoration. That is the reason this Ganesha is made in it.

Here Ganeshji is seated on a chowki, the low platform used to place a deity during worship, so the idol and its seat are carved as one piece. The whole thing is handmade, and the carving runs across the chowki as well as the figure.
