Two Painted Faces, a Rajasthani Man and Woman
This is not a full figurine. What you get is the face of a Rajasthani man and woman, hand-painted onto the wood, the man with his moustache and turban and the woman with her odhni and jewellery. Working at face level only means all the detail goes into the expressions and the headwear, which is where this style of Rajasthani painting is at its best.
The wood is kadamb, a timber held to be auspicious in Rajasthan and long associated with Krishna, which is part of why a piece like this is chosen as a wedding gift rather than a plain wooden one.

Weddings and anniversaries, where a couple carries the obvious meaning, and housewarmings for a study table. The advantage over a showpiece is that it stays in daily use instead of gathering dust on a shelf.
