A Vastu Tortoise, and Where It Is Meant to Face

In Vastu the tortoise is a symbol of stability and steady fortune, kept in homes, offices and pooja rooms for that reason. The direction matters as much as the placement: it is traditionally set facing into the house rather than towards the door, so that what it represents is understood to come inward. North or east placement is the usual advice.

The shell is where the meenakari enamel goes, hand-painted in colour across the plates of the back, over a solid metal body that gives the piece real weight for its size.
