Krishna sits playing his flute, worked in metal with hand painting and kundan set into the surface for an antique finish. A bowl is cast into the front of the piece, which is where the candle goes.
The Flute Player, With a Candle Bowl at His Feet
The bowl is part of the same casting rather than a separate dish, so nothing slides or has to be balanced. Light a tealight in it and the glow rises onto the painted figure and the kundan, which is when the piece looks its best. Unlit, it simply reads as a Krishna showpiece.
Painting and kundan
The colour is applied by hand over the metal and the kundan pieces are set individually, catching the flame and giving the antique finish its depth. Made in Jaipur.
