A Surahi Cut in Lattice, Lit From Inside

The surahi, the long-necked flask once kept for guests in royal households, reworked here as a candle holder. It stands 38cm tall, which is unusual for a tealight piece and is the reason it holds a corner or an entrance on its own.

A candle stand sits at the base of the jug. Once lit, the light works its way out through the lattice cut into the body and lands on the surrounding walls as a pattern, which is where the piece earns its keep after dark.

Finish and form

The metal carries a gold oxidized painting, darkened in the recesses so the lattice and the curves of the neck stand out. The effect is antique rather than shiny, which lets it sit in a traditional room or a more eclectic modern one without looking out of place.
